An Old Man and an Angel

When I painted this for a children's book I tried to copy someone surreptitiously. For the life of me I can't remember who. A famous illustrator from England? A popular Californian blogger?...Damn!. My memory isn't what it used to be.

Well. As I. L. Diamond put it: Nobody is perfect

A Bee-Una Abeja (?)

I found this drawing between old papers. It is part of a walking cycle from an animated pilot I worked on in 1967. I believe this character was called "Damby", or something like that, and it was a sort of a bee. This is the only drawing I have from animations I've done in Argentina.
I think that even before the pilot was completed I gave up working in animation and took a sabatical for two or three years. You can see why.

Character Studies

Designs

Five years ago I designed these characters that were turned into 3-D characters by a company I cannot remember the name now (Sorry!)

Storyboard

I like SIMPLE storyboards. Over elaborated storyboards, with arrows, direction lines and camera instructions look like bullshit to me. I always draw very simple frames and shoot them with the right timing and minimal camera moves. Very often I use these drawings, enlarged, as rough layouts and colour keys.
I believe in simplicity and spontaneity in the very "unspontaneous" art of animation.
These are the opening scenes for a short I made for Paul McCartney in 1998. "The Light Comes From Within".
